A Question Of Etiquette
I just have a simple question that I'm sure has already been discussed, but to which I don't know the answer.
OK, here it is:
Say I am on the site, and one other person is also on. What do I do if I want to chat via the chatbox with the other person? Do I just go to the chatbox and say hello, hoping they'll see it and get on also? Or is there some sort of other system to notify people of chat requests?

That's basically what you do, there's no PM system so you just have to keep yelling out for them until they see you X3

Yeah
Although Malex wrote a much improved chat room which he will be replacing this one with eventually. In it one will be able to poke other users so as to have a better hope of their messages being seen.
But there will pretty much always be an element of giving people the benefit of the doubt in case things don’t go just right, I imagine.

I like to say HI about a hundred times to catch their attention. But you can never be sure the person you want to talk to is still on. THats what bothers me...

On a similar note, is there a way that the chatbox can be modified so it doesn't keep interrupting while you're trying to do something else on the site? I've been stopped in the middle of typing a word in this post like twenty times now. Aaaagggghhhh!!!

Hmmm? I was not aware that there was any such contraption as a "Monitor Activity Box." What does it do? It sounds like it might be helpful in some way or another.

There should be a checkbox located in the middle of the blue bar at the bottom of the chatbox. There’s a link next to it that opens a pop-up window that says, “When this box is checked, the chatbox will pop up over all your windows when someone says something. This is useful if you are doing something else while chatting.”

The problem with this is that for me, and probably for others too, it pops up regardless of whether the box is checked or not.

oic, thanks for the clarification, Quartz. That does sound like it would be helpful, only I need a checkbox that will do the opposite: KEEP the chatbox from popping up all the time. I have a problem similar to Mr. Fnord. Everytime the chatbox refreshes, which is about every ten seconds, the chatbox pops up in front of all other windows. So every tens seconds, I have to stop what I am doing and click off of the chatbox to get back to what I was doing.
