Well, as I didn't see any other topics anywhere about the album, and it seemed to me that this would be the best place to put it, I'm making this topic to discuss Structures! ![]()
I listened to the Malex Minute episode endorsing Structures a couple days after last Christmas, and boy did I like the sound of it! I only happened to come here and buy the CD last week, and it came to my doorstep on Tuesday! Since then, I've put it on play on my iPod and stereo pretty much nonstop, as it works well as a nice soundtrack to drawing and reading. ![]()
I started reading Dune the day I got it, and I noticed that when reading the beginning chapter, it seemed like the beats and sounds from the songs were playing along to the words as I read. It was pretty funny, and thought I don't think anyone else will notice that, I suggest someone try and see if it works for them! ![]()
My favorite part of the album is the way that the songs seem to come together and form one giant song. Most of the albums I get have the styles and stuff switch majorly when finishing and starting another song. Structures flowed very well together in my opinion.
Anyway, any other comments?
There isn't much more to say, is there?
Structures pwns ...

Hey, wow...
Thanks guys! If there's one thing I like more than compliments, it's... I give up!
Seriously though, I'm really glad you guys like the CD.
I should also mention I've started work on some new tracks now that are (almost literally) rocking my socks off. As I mentioned before, I'm not planning on releasing another full-length album for a while. Instead, I'm going to focus on releasing EPs of varying styles and complexities.
So hopefully I'll be able to share some of these things with you guys quite soon.

Oh.
While it kinda saddens me to not get to expect another album any time soon, I do hope to hear more in those other things.. what did you say? EPs?
What does that stand for?
Also, I agree with all of the comments on the ...As I mentioned before..., ans I would totally buy a box set of Minutes. And I guess you could fit more if there was a bit less theme song.

I love Structures
I especially like listening to it in the car. Especially, especially if I'm not very happy. Structures doesn't actually cheer me up. It's more like it soothes me. I really love the tracks, Optimistic (Interlude), Smooth, and Tinman (Piano Solo). And my hands down favorite is Once Called Home.
Of course, my favorites change over time, so if I've listed my favorites before, they may have been different. I guess it kind of depends on my mood.

My favorites of Structures are "Everything is New", "Turnabout", and "Dark Consequence". I'm not really sure which beats all for me, but I think it might be "Everything is New".

EPs
"I do hope to hear more in those other things.. what did you say? EPs? What does that stand for?"
I believe it stands for "Extended Play". It's an archaic term from the days when vinyl records were mainstream. All it really means today is a collection of music that's too short to really be considered an album.
The idea is that, with a shorter format, I'll be able to release more music, more quickly. And with more varied genres to boot!
In fact, I'm already knee-deep in my next two EPs already. It's impossible to say when anything will see the light of day, but I'm hoping it'll be sooner than later.
Hope that clears it up...

The historian speaks
In the days of vinyl, records came in 3 forms: 33 rpms, 45rpms & 78 rpms. These were referred to as 33's, 45's & 78's. 78's died out altogether in the 1930's or '40's, leaving only 33's (also called albums) and 45's (also called singles). An album was exactly equivalent to a typical cd of today. Same number of tracks (called cuts back then). Of course a cd could carry a lot more music than a 33 could, but few artists are willing to give you that much.
Singles were smaller in size than albums and had a bigger hole in the center, which meant you had to use an adapter which stuck into the hole or a spindle which fit down over the center post of the record player itself. Also, they usually only contained one song on each side. There was the A side, which was the hit that received the airplay, and the B side, a less popular song by the same artist. Occasionally, a single would have two or even (rarely!) three songs on the A side. This was known as an EP, or extended play. An EP was a better deal in the jukebox, because you got two songs for a dime instead of just one.
Thank you for your kind attention.

You can still buy pretty decent players on the cheap if you need one. In fact, if you want to spend some money, you can buy very nice turntables designed for DJing.

As a random side note... ok, it's not so random, actually. I'm pretty sure the song Once Called Home is on this CD... ((Is it? Correct me if I'm wrong.)) I love that song, and I've taken to trying to figure out the notes to play it on my viola. Yes, my vla. Let me tell you, it's turning out to be rather difficult since Malex was whistling.
But I'm trying nonetheless. ^^;;; Hopefully it won't sound horrible when I'm done.

I can't wait to hear it, Rina. I just love the sound of stringed instruments. And Malex's whistle is so sonorous that a viola might be the perfect instrument to complement the sound. Certainly no wind instrument could do it justice.

Really? That's awesome! I wanted to play Tinman on the piano. Malex said he might get me a midi file, but I don't know if he got my email. Structures rocks! It makes me go to sleep if I can't. It's so relaxing and awesome! dnb4themassive sends shivers down my spine sometimes.

As a follow-up, I did receive Hatter's email, and I did eventually get a chance to send a MIDI and a PDF of some sheet music for Tinman. (Hatter, I'm dying to know how that sheet music works out for you.)
And I really have to say, everybody, I really appreciate all of your incredible compliments. For a composer like myself, there really is no greater honor than for someone to want to play one's music.

Me, failing at making music. Again. =.=
Wait, next album? That's awesome! ^^
I have to double-check this, but I think that I can write Once Called Home in dm [D minor for those of you who don't know] with the fewest accidentals. ^^ *sarcasm* Yay for bad orchestra teachers not teaching me anything about key signatures! */sarcasm* It's the one with B-flat as the only flat/sharp... anyone want to help me with the answer...?

My knowledge of music is minimal.

Music Fun :-D
I have to wish you good luck there. My knowledge of standard music notation is practically non-existent, and to make matters worse, I don't remember anything about what key, etc. the piece is in. (I would go and look it up, but the lead part was just me whistling. Which means I probably never took down any notes on the music. So I would be forced to reverse-engineer the part the same as you.)

A'kay, Lilly. I'll end up writing it in alto clef, but I can transpose it to treble.... Of course I'll give it to you! The only issue is 1: I really don't see you that often (as much as I love Ane, I'm afraid she'd loose it), and 2: it'll be hand written. I don't have a spiffy program to make it into actual sheet music. TT^TT
Sigh. I know that you're whistling, Malex. That's why it's hard to figure out. -.- I think it's dm, because b-flat major has 3 sharps.... My orchestra class is terrible. I learned more on my own, and the pieces are ridiculous. -.-* Whatevvs. ^^U But, I am principle viola! (I'm the only viola to, but that's besides the point.) (('principle viola' means I'm first chair. It's officially called 'principle' if you're not a violin.))
