My Story
As you have all probably heard before, I have been working on a novel. I have been "working on it" for the past two years.
But now, I am revising it. I am perfecting it from the beginning for I hope the last time. I hope to finish it within the next year or so. I also hope that by then we will be able to post nodes with prises on them, because I am NOT posting this for free. I will probably have spent a good three or four years of my life on it, and I am going to make it official.
So far, this revision has been coming along perfectly. Never before have I been able to say that about a revision. This is a very hopeful sign.
Also, on a different subject, everyone seems to have dropped from the sight completely now. Let's see.... Leela hasn't gotten on for a long while, Fopsworth neither, Amanda for an even longer while, and mAlex, Aisling, Phoenyx, Crazy J, Icepunk, and I are the only ones who seem to be still posting, and I'm the only one who I can tell is posting regularly. Then there's those people like Young Movie Maker, Lilly, Jeremy Tech, etc., who rarely post, and people like Josh Glover who post a little more frequently, that you never can tell whether they have actually stopped posting or not, because they don't do it often enough. So, as Icepunk put it, did everyone but us die?
I'm only posting about something as uninteresting as my story because it's almost desolate here anymore.

Also, the sequel is well on its way.
I don't know what possessed me to start on a sequel, when not only am I not even halfway done with the first one, but I don't have any evidence that anyone will like it, either, and so far it's proven itself to be hard work juggling both.

The important thing...
The important thing for cohesion is that you already know where you're going with the plots before you ever start on the prose. At least for me, if I don't have an outline before I dive in, it's just going to get all tangled up and suck when it's done. (Just look at TUAoMaI...)

My book
I finished my book about the night. Now I'm reading a factual historical account that will help me with the background of the book I'd like to write.
I should really say, the book I'd like to have written. Or the book I'd like someone else to write. I'd like to read it, but I'm no good at the actual writing part.
Just another would-be author, thwarted by the realities of the writing process, and by her own lack of self-discipline.

Writing Out of Order.
Planning a sequal is okay as long as you don't start on it until the first is finished.
I'm not exactly an expert but I have finished a novel so I do have experience.
And I discovered that whenever I tried to "write out of order" such as chronologically in one book or a sequal/prequal before finishing the first, I never ended up finishing anything at all.
Those juicy bits that are really fun to write, if I'm going to write one, I don't write it until I've come to it. That way, the looking forward to writing that part will get me through the boring bits inbetween.
I'll shut up now.

Gee, Aisling, this sounds like very good advice. At least, for me. Or it would be, if I ever actually stared writing.
Also, I think you're the only one in our little group who has ever finished an entire story from beginning to end on your own. So that definitely qualifies you to give advice.

Okay Quartz. Here's an example. By saying this approach gives you no trouble, after someone else said they'd have trouble with it, you sound like you're claiming to be superior. The phrase you chose sounds excessively firm. You have 2 superlatives in it: I'm not having any trouble at all doing it. This firmness seems to underscore the failings of a person who would have any trouble at all.
The emoticon you chose helps to soften your stance a little. But leaving out one or both of the superlatives would help even more.
Try this: "I'm not having trouble doing it." or "It seems to be working for me so far." You could go even further by adding the emoticon, or a statement of uncertainty like, "Let's see how well I do." (The phrase, "so far" at the end of my example was also a statement of uncertainty. They help to soften one's declarations, and make them feel less aggressive.)

I don't think that'll happen with you guys, but it still worries me. Some of those communities though, I'm sure they fell apart because I came. I annoyed them and got to much into it.

Oh, heh... I think that was before I really got the hang of internet communities. People fade in and out with their frequency of visiting - that's normal. Only a few of those poeple I mentioned have actually left - the others just get busy or something. They're still affilliated with the site and everything, but they have no reason to prioritize the forums. Often this is because they're actually Malex Media Network™ team members, and they're off working on making the media that they'd be posting. Like with Filman (the one I referred to as "Young Movie Maker" - he changed his username), HonkeyDorey, ... You get the gist, right?
So basically, what I was saying was simply a mistaken impression that my erstewhile inexperience on internet forums had led to, I think. Besides, we actually have growing content on the site now... We didn't before.
But I know what you mean - there is some element of sadness to seeing a community fall apart slowly out of disinterest. You have my sympathy with those that you say that's happened with for you.

Yeah, I can imagine, I think - that would be worrying. Don't worry, though, because we're in business! This is our dream! It's a bona fide legal company! We're team members! We're growing, and it looks like we're about to experience a good spurt when school is out this year! That sort of thing takes a lot more to dissolve it, I imagine.

I think you've misconveived that when one person annoys another, it's quite often as much the fault of the anoy-ee as it is the fault of the annoy-er, if you know what I mean. You're perfectly fine around here, as long as you don't be deliberately offensive or breach our content guidelines for family-friendliness and stuff. And it looks like you're far from that sort of thing.
