Techno/electronica

Christoph Jenkins's picture

Hey guys. Ever since getting Structures, I've started going into the whole techno and electronica genres. I've really liked some of the works of German artists Ellen Alien and Apparat. Any suggestions on material?

Heh...

I just listen to whatever I hear floating up from my brother's room.

I enjoy a wide variety of genres and artists. For example, Andy Hunter, DBA, cloud2ground, Tresice, Faith Massive, etc.

The electronica on Structures is mostly Trance and Drum&Bass. If you look up those genres, you're likely to fair better than if you just look up electronica or (worse) techno.

In fact, techno is a sub-genre of electronic music which almost nobody has heard from since the 90s. The use of its name to refer to electronic dance music in general, while common, is incorrect.

Hope that helps some!

Ooh!

I just found Tresice's home page: http://www.gerwinkoudijs.com/

I'm listening to a few sounds off his site that I've never heard before, and I'm liking them a lot.

One thing to remember about most electronic music is that it can seem very (very) drawn out and repetitive to a newbie. One of the reasons for this is so that an experienced DJ can mix multiple songs together - building the introduction of song B into the climax of song A. Thus, you have long intros, long outtros, etc.

If you're patient, though, you'll find lot of great stuff. :)

Dude!

Christoph, you TOTALLY have to check out Andy Hunter's stuff. It's completely off the wall! Check out his website. You can google him, but I think its www.andyhunter.com. Not sure, though. Oh, I love his music! w00t!

Ahem, I really really enjoy Malex's music, too. It rocks! I'm not at all saying that Andy Hunter overshadows Malex. IMO, Malex's latest stuff is on the same par as any other professional EDM writers/producers. So, yeah.
