Slushy's going military

Slushpunk's picture

Some of you may already know about this but I have felt God leading me to be an AirForce pilot for quite a few years, even before Ice had any interest in the police. So what do I do?(no, no. nothing drastic) I search out something that would help me in my future career. I found that in Civil Air Patrol, or CAP. CAP is an Airforce Auxillary(it's a small little branch attached to the Airforce) responsible for 95 percent of US search and rescue missions. Anyone 12 to 18 can join and be a cadet. Cadets don't go on missions but you get to learn all kinds of aerospace and drill stuff. I went to meetings a few times before deciding to join.

The first time I went to a PT day and it was kinda brutal, but PT is only every once in a while. Most meetings are short classes and then drill, whitch is really fun. I'm not very good at drill yet, and I kno you're wondering what's so fun about marching around a parking lot and having a drill sargeant yell orders at you that you don't understand, but, umm, it is.

All the other cadets are cool, I've gotten to talk with most of them and I've felt really welcomed.

So anyway I filled out the papers and they gave some temporary BDUs(full camo uniform) and blues(my sweet dress uniform for special occasions like promotions). I'm kinda ticked cause the BDUs aren't digital, but the Airforce is oldfashioned about that. And the Airforce doesn't have a yell(you kno, HUA!) like all the other branches.

I guess it doesn't matter, when I went to a CAP meeting thursday we say a didy that included a hua during drill. I do a good Hua! It's fun, you should try it! Do it from the diafram, and try to sound like a guy. The drill sargeant was saying that we sounded like girls the first few times we tried it. I was tempted to say "well, duh!" but I would've gotten in trouble.

If you have any desire to join the military, either look into the CAP, http://www.cap.gov , or the Explorers. Ice was briefly involed in the Explorers before he left for basic.

You can also talk to me and I could give you a little more info and direct you to a CAP base so you could sit in on a meeting. They prefer for you to go with a current CAP member as a guest. If just random people come in and sit in on their meetings they'll freak. I was invited by a freind's little brother who knew I had an interest in CAP, so they they were fine with me coming.

They aren't trying to turn you into soldiers, and even if you have no interest in the military CAP is gonna be a benefit in life. It teachers leadership skills that'll help you later on, and they try really hard to get you in shape! Every time you go it's a good workout.

I've taken up enough of your time, please please don't get me started on the military or anything related again because I'll just start rambling.

Well, now you know what the Slushy's been doing, so ttyl!

Go you!

Wow, that's so cool, Slush! I didn't know there was stuff like that out there for young people. That's awesome! Wow, you have a very noble aspiration, to be an Airforce Pilot! What's even more awesome is that you are surrendering to God's leading in your life. You are obeying what He is saying to you (just make absolutely positively certain that it really is HIM talking to you and not just, like, you know, yourself or something. I only say that 'cuz I've done it to myself before :P) I salute you, Slushpunk!!! HUA!!

Delighted

I'm so glad that you've found this outlet for your desire to fly and be involved in military stuff. Especially an outlet that may be helpful in later life.

Do it from the diafram, and try to sound like a guy. The drill sargeant was saying that we sounded like girls the first few times we tried it.

This is the part I have a problem with. What's wrong with sounding like a girl? :-| God made girls to sound one way and guys to sound another. As for the HUA, Ais and the others do that in taekwondo, too. It's called a kee-op, although my spelling of it is probably totally wrong. It seems to help them.

That's really amazing! All the punks are turning out to be military types... I never would have guessed.

Yeah, *lol* I did too for a very brief point in my life - I had no idea what it actually felt like to be called by God. I was trying to go on meaningless notions that popped into my head, when what it really felt like when I finally did find it was absolute certainty in and of itself, making perfect sense with the rest of my life!

I kno Sangming, but

Of course it's okay to sound like a girl, I for one am glad that I DON'T sound like a guy. But to do the Hua(this is not the same as a kiai or "ki-op") correctly you must make it sound deep. If it sounded high pitched it wouldn't sound right at all. Do you understand what I mean?

I get it

yeah, well, I guess on the battlefield, you would want to sound intimidating to your oponent. A high-pitched "HUA!" is probably not nearly as intimidating as a deep, resonating, "HHHHUUUUAAAA!!!!" Ya know?

Stereotypes

What's wrong with sounding like a girl? -SM

I thought of this quote when I read this. It from one of my new favorite books, Artemis Fowl.

This part is about an elf-cadet who wants to join the Fairy police force (the LEP-Recon squad :-P ) As only the second female to complete basic training, there are tons of prejudices agains her.

---------------

Every time the curriculum drew up a role-playing game, Holly, as the only female in the class, was always picked to be the hostage or the elf walking home alone or the teller facing the bank robber. She tried to object that this was stereotyping, but the instructor replied that stereotypes were stereotypes for a reason, so get that blonde wig on, missy!

Slushpunk,

I don't know where to start. This is one of those defining moments in life, when you look at the passage of time and realize that time is going by faster than you can say, "Look, honey, Little Slushpunk is flying across the living room! Quick, come see! And bring the camera!" And that's where it started, when you were 11 months old and the other little girls were learning to walk, and in typical -Punk fashion, you had to be different...

It really touches me that our young people are being so focused and directed by God into what they should do with their lives. I didn't know what I wanted to do at your age. Looking back, I know God directed me, but I didn't know where I was going.

You know I have supported you and will always support you! You can come to me and talk about anything. Anyway, those Air Force planes look mighty expensive, so you had better start saving up for one.

There is no emoticon for the nose-scrunch-smile thing - is this close? X-D Or :-*

X-D! Thanks Roamng. I kno I'll always have your support.

Something Roamng found out(who knos where he gets this stuff) is that in flight survival school I'm going to have to learn how to trap, skin and cook a wild rabbit or bird. You kno, just in case my plane gets shot down or crashes in some wilderness. Nasty huh? I'm gonna have to learn to gut it too! *sniff* poor little bunny! I think I'd rather starve.

Looking into a pilot's position and plan on getting lasik eye surgery in order to repair my vision to be able to do so. doing this really is a great thing. I hope to hear more abotu your venture. Good luck and keep us up dated.

Hey Sis

Slushy, I think it's great that you're getting involved in the CAP. When I get back I'd like to go to one of their meetings with you.

It's awesome that you're trying to follow God's plan for your life, but I would like to caution you on confusing his plan with your own desires. I feel that God wants me to be here, but I didn't feel that way until he pulled off a couple of miracles for me (my Sharpshooter badge, for instance; I almost didn't even qualify, and now I'm one of the best shots in the company, but that's another story).

You need to be in constant prayer before you sign away several years of your life to fight a war in another country.

Through power, I gain victory.

Through victory, my chains are broken.

The Force will set me free.
