State of Emergency or State of Ohio? It's hard to be sure.
Apparently the governor announced a state of emergency on Monday. For those of you who aren't local, Hurricane Ike's last gasps in Ohio topped 75 MPH, claimed five lives, and damaged a significant percentage of Ohio's infrastructure in the process.
My family is fine, and we only fell behind a few days on Malex Media Network™ stuff. The power was out for about twenty-four hours at home and here at the office. We lost a few trees, but nothing was seriously damaged.
My prayers go up for people in regions hit harder by this storm, especially those who've lost loved ones. Storms like this are just insanity.

Indeed!
Storms like this ARE insanity! And we only got the tail-end of it! I can't imagine how bad it was for people in texas!

You know you've played too many war games when you see a helicopter and expect it to open fire.
A lie would have no sense unless the truth were felt as dangerous.
Yeah
I’ve never watched a good forty-foot tree simply get blown over by the wind before my eyes. Until Sunday…
And mind you it missed our swing set by a mere few feet. It’s cool to see it illustrated so vividly that God watches out for us even over such trifles as a decade-old swing set that we hardly use anymore, even in the very face of disaster.
Our loving Father only lets harm come to us when He has a very specific, loving reason.

Old Mother Hubbard sat in her cupboard,
Drowning her sorrows in hay.
Along came a spider who sat down to chide her,
But he could think of nothing to say.
Yep!
And I've never seen a large trampoline flying through the air before my eyes. Until Sunday...
It was hilarious! Our trampoline, which is one of those big ones, actually got lifted off the ground and was being hurled through the air by the wind! Its little tour of our yard ended abruptly when it slammed into the side of our pool, which was quite offended by the whole thing, and has a nasty dent to show for it.

That's odd...
Shortness said: (the winds name is Steve!)
I thought they called the wind Maria.
(It's a joke. There was this folk-type song that was popular years ago, and the lyrics contained these words:
A way out here they've got a name for wind and rain and fire
The rain is Jack the fire is Joe and they call the wind Maria
Pretty tune, stupid song, stupider joke.)

Imagine my surprise
We've been wiki'd! It seems odd to see a current event - one that is still going on - referred to in the past tense. I quote Wiki, "In Cincinnati, the effects of this storm have become known as The Cincinnati Blackout. "
Someone has a dramatic sense of the historical, or an historic sense of the dramatic, or something.
I'm so sad about the fatalities, but I'm very grateful to God that no one else was hurt, and the damage was much less than it might have been.
