Hey everyone... leave a post and tell me about your music and your vision. I don't know many people on here, so it will be good for introductions.
I sing and play acoustic guitar mostly, and write. I see my life as a story that God is very deliberately writing, and it's my job to tell it. Music is part of how I bare myself and my life before the public.
If I could use an emoticon to represent my rockstardome, it would have to be ![]()
Your turn.
Malex Music
Let us see... My music is hard to nail down. I've written some really, really bad 8-bit electronic music, I moved to trance, have I'm done a lot with DnB, and am now experimenting heavily with breaks, ambient, and analogue sounds.
Mainly, I use music to glorify God, and to express my emotions in a way that others may be able to relate to. Occasionally, I even try to tell stories, and encompass an entire journey in a song. Sometimes it even works the way I expected it to.
What about the non-artists out there? What do you expect out of music? What impact does it have on you?

A guitarist? Really?
A guitarist? Really? Awesome. I personally play a bass guitar. It's how I worship. I've gotten pretty good with it too. I just can't sing very well; in fact, I have a hard time even getting on key. I could use some lessons...
Anyway, if I could use a smiley, it would probably this

I don't exactly have music. I just basically enjoy others', like mAlex's. But if you mean by "vision" what I want to do/become, I'll readily answer: AN ENTERTAINER.
I plan to do
all of
the following to entertain.
I'm only twelve years old, and I've already made progress on all of these things.
If I am ANYTHING, though, I'm an artist. Drawing is my passion, one might say. But mentally, I'm an extreme perfectionist.
Also, as mAlex's little brother, I've gotten MANY[/u] firsthand opportunities to aid him in the mAlex Media Network. I'm proud to say I've taken up all of those that I could, at least to my recollection.
Am I forgetting anything, mAlex?

Myself and no music...
Since I have absolutely no musical talent I think this is the wrong forum for me to be in but since you asked...
I'm a writer. Period.
Of course I can do a lot of other things but mostly I write. I have been with the Malex Media Network for as long as it's existed though I wasn't technically a member until rescently.
I'm Malex's younger sister and as for contributions I've mostly just been Malex's advisor. I'm also the owner of one of the two cameras used in the EMIT project. As such, I am also the "camera woman".
I, also, was the creator for the second largerst amount of levels in Nomad 2.
Musically, I'm trying to improve. I'm taking chior lessons to try and learn how to use my voice. Instrumentally ... I know how to play the ocarina.
(Malex hates that thing.)
As for vision, I am called to be a missionary to Ireland and have been for as long as I can remember. (I also hope, someday, to direct a high budget movie.
)

So, on a new train of thought...
I'm learning to play the mario underground theme on my guitar. It's frikkin insane, I tell you, INSANE!! Even the Imperial March wasn't a fraction of this difficulty. Between the timing, the spacing of the notes, and the fact that I only have a vague memory of how it should sound makes it officially the hardest piece of music i've ever had the (dis)pleasure of laying my eyes on. To give you an idea of the horrors I am going through, here's the tablatures...
G---17--14--15
D
A-15--12--13
E
G---17--14--15

A-15--12--13
E
G---------------3-2-1
D---------------3-4-2-------1
A-6-5-4---3--6--5--------4--3--------------2-1-0

A: I left out a part of the tab that I just so happened to have overlooked.
B: It's for the bass, not a 6-stringer.
C: It's horrible. Horrible. After playing it, and then finding the mario song itself, the tab is wretched. Don't bother. It's a mistake of unbelievable proportions.

Music
I can't play any musical instrument, but I love to sing! Sadly, I ruined a once-promising operatic soprano with 15+ years of smoking and misuse. Now, my vision for music is for my children.
I especially love Malex's music. I hope that somday he achieves recognition for his talent.
Aisling has an enviable soprano range. Unlike my powerhouse voice, hers is lilting and pretty. My vision for her is to develop better control and confidence, and to know that she sounds good. She'd be a good candidate for voice lessons, if she's interested.
Susie is my little opera star. My only real vision for her talent right now,is to develop whatever skills she has to her own level of comfort. In a few years, if she still feels the same, she'll have voice lessons.
I'd like T to sing with more confidence. He has a great bass voice and could sing opera if he wanted to.
Ship has some interest in singing and playing an instrument. I'd be happy to see him pursue these interests, but I won't push him.
Just keep swimming!

low, low, low.
I'm a bass. Deep and not so loud. Worse, my only high range involves screaming inanely. Fortunately, I have at least developed that and I can do it pretty well - relatively speaking, of course. Very few people can handle that kind of heavy metal, though amazingly i'm better at the screaming than most proffesional singers who do it. The only better guys I can think of off hand are Ryan Clark and Mike Williams. Ryan Clark also has an incredible singing voice.

Heavy metal screaming?
--Alex Markley

“Objects in mirror seem closer than they appear.”
Yeah.
That's about the only way I can go high, unfortunately. It's frankly rather annoying, because a few of the songs I try to sing along with involve going outside of my range at several points, leaving me floundering with only a little spittle and air coming out until they come back down low.
Argh. It bugs the heck outta me.

Well...
That just means that you have a low range. That's not in any way a bad thing, regardless of popular rhetoric. I, personally, am quite secure in my role as a bass.

I know what you mean Humie.
Of course my troubles are on the opposite end of the spectrum.
Most songs are too low for me. I had to sing a solo on stage for drama class one year and it was horrible. Some of it was faulty equipment and some of it was that I'm not musically inclined. But most of it was cause I was in speaking voice the whole time. I wish I could could personally apologise to each and every person in the audience for the physical damaged I most likely caused them.

There is nothing a psychiatrist can do that bubble wrap can't.

Vocal Damage
Worse, my only high range involves screaming inanely.
This is exactly the kind of abuse I referred to that ruined my singing voice. In fact, I think it actually damaged my throat. Reaching for a high note without using falsetto must be done with power and volume. Sadly, the lining of your throat can only take so much of that.
My advice is that you perfect a falsetto that doesn't sound too false. Singing means so much to me, but I will never sound good again because of this error.
It's been more than 25 years since I was able to sing and be pleased with the result. Think about it.
Just keep swimming!
---------------
I get up, I walk, I fall down. Meanwhile, I keep dancing. - Hillel
Actually
I do try to go as high as I possibly can. Only problem is there is a lack of force for me at that range. The only way I can get semi-audible sound at the point is for me to scream. I don't do it that often, and the fact that it isn't loud or powerful means that it doesn't hurt my throat. That does mean, though, that you have to crank the gain on the mic, and then turn it back down when I go back to normal singing. This is trivial when compared to matters of health, however.

"Have you seen how much cotton candy he can eat?"

Hmm
I do the overpushing in my chest voice when I'm legitimately in my head voice thing almost all the time, and lately I've just stopped singing, because my voice matters to me a lot, and I can tell it's messing it up, but I can't afford voice lessons right now. So I'm kind of waiting/trying to back off until I can get it together. A lot of it has to do with the way that I've written my music as well. I wrote a lot of things out of emotional turmoil, and it shows in the way I sing it... which isn't really good. I'm starting to write things differently. I'm aiming more now for something beautiful than for something angry.
So take that!
So take that!

I've heard that you have a lovely voice.

Since no one can ever seem to pronounce 'Da Humie' correctly, and to avoid the slightest possibility of copyright infringements (I took the name from a way of talking, but given the nit-picking insanity of Games Workshop's lawyers, i'd probably be sued if it was used in any way as part of a company of any sort), I am changing my name to my other nickname, which I use at my youth-group.

what's wrong with being a crazy guitar person?
I play the acoustic. I have a six string, but I really prefer my Grandpa's 12-string guild original guitar.
I can plunk out a few random things on the piano, and I learn piano quickly enough that I can actually make it look like I know what I'm doing.
My real gift lies in my writing (at least, I think it does, but you can all judge for yourselves if I ever actually finish something). I have no fewer than 17 full novels at different stages of development, and actually 17 is probably not even an accurate count anymore, since that count was made two years ago.
I've written a couple of songs and actually recorded one, but I need to re-record it, hey, and maybe you could help, Tal. I've dabbled in peotry a little bit, but CrazyJ's really got the market cornered in that area.
Vocally, I have some skills, but it's more determination than anything, since I trained myself for over two years to be able to sing the part of Christine in "Phantom of the Opera," which I still plan to do on Broadway someday.
Other than that, I'm just a Lord of the Rings fanatic, and I think I'm an Elf.

My influences and dreams
As a trance producer, I have been heavily influenced lately by artists like Armin Van Buuren, Immoral Monkeys, Talla 2XLC, Van Gelder, Kansai, etc. It has been a long, hard road, and I'm still a long way off from where I'd like to be, but as long as I learn something new every day, and I keep trying, someday I'll have music I'm proud of.
My vision, however impossible it may be, is to:
1. Get signed
2. Get on the charts
3. Take the spotlight away from hacks like Tiesto
The 2nd one could, theoretically, happen before the 1st one, but I'd need a lot of exposure (and no, I don't mean running around the city naked, the one time that happened was more than enough).
