Ok, the title of this blog is so utterly ridiculous, but would you expect anything less from the self-proclaimed lord of lunacy? I wanted to call myself the Prince of Madness, but Sheogorath beat me to it, so I had to settle for lunacy.
Anyway, I think it's time for a look at upcoming movies for 2008 - and do we have a doozy or what?
There's a few titles i'm interested in that are minor news, and so i'll get to them at the end. The big stuff comes first.
First and foremost... THE DARK KNIGHT! Ooh-rah! Given Heath Ledger's recent demise, this is most likely going to be the biggest hit this year - mostly because he died, though there is no doubt in my mind that this movie is going to pwn. There's too many movies that we have to wait a few months for, and this is one of them. Shocking tidbit of news - The Joker is NOT Batman's main enemy...
Anyone remember Harvey Dent?
Up next, and possibly the movie i'm most excited about, is SPEED RACER. Being a fan of the anime as a child, I have no choice but to go see this one. It's being directed and produced by the Wachowski Brothers. Ya know, the guys who did the Matrix and V for Vendetta? They still have one Matrix sequel to redeem themselves for, and so far it looks like they just might with this one. Yeah, the plot's a little thin, but the casting is amazing - the main actors look so similar to their anime/manga counterparts it's a little creepy. That, and the special effects are IN-FREAKING-SANE. Trailer here -

Also upcoming is THE INCREDIBLE HULK. The first movie was pretty decent, but this one is shaping up to be much better. I like the casting better (Edward Norton as Bruce Banner, which works better in my mind, and William Hurt as General Ross), and our super anti-hero faces a much more fitting opponent - The Abomination (though he will NOT be refered to as such in the movie, 'cuz 'tis a lame name). The Hulk himself is supposed to be closer to his comic version than the prior film - that is, he's much more violent and brutal. He truely is a being of rage.
What else is on the plate? Christians are getting universally excited about PRINCE CASPIAN. This is one I actually don't know too much about, aside from the fact that the tone of the movie is much darker than the previous one. It's supposed to be much more brutal. How much so, I can't say. So I won't.
Of course, who can forget STAR TREK?! Aside from the casting, there's virtually no information anywhere about this picture. Reports from saying that it will portray the crew's academy days, to recording their early adventures, and sometimes both. So, to be fair, i'm not gonna say anything. Saying, I would know; do not know, so cannot say.
I'm ridiculously excited over IRON MAN. The casting is great (so's the costume department), and the special effects... the suit feels real and has presence, which in itself is amazing. Not to mention the suit has to do some freaking crazy stuff, and the fact that it still feels real despite the fact he's outmanuvering F-22 Raptor's while going beyond the speed of sound gives me chills. Yeah, there's points were it's blatant CGI, even from the trailers, but it still is amazing. I also like the fact that IRON MAN and THE INCREDIBLE HULK have breif tie-ins with each other, to help lend credency to the planned AVENGER'S movie (but that's way down the line).
Beyond that, there's not a whole lot major going on. I'm personally interested in Jumper, a story about people gifted/cursed with teleportation; 10,00 B.C. about the "first hero", who just happens to be tribseman who's clan is mostly annihilated and/or sold into slavery (it's not necessarily an evolutionist film; the Earth is believed to be 7,000 to 10,000 years old and those animals portrayed did exist at one point in time), and a few other films interest me, like Indiana Jones 4 and The Mummy 3, but at this point, i'm sick of typing. G'night.

Movies from my point of view.
Of all you mentioned, I'm vaguely interested in Speed Racer simply because I saw a preview and it looks very visually pleasing...
And then of course Prince Caspian. Though I am afraid of it a bit. I was slightly disappointed in tLtWatW. I hope they do better with this one. Though already they've gone and made Caspian too old.
However, other than those, I am extremely, one-the-edge, excited about Wall-E. He's so cute! And it's Pixar! And it's gonna be family friendly!
And then there's Forbidden Kingdom. But I'm not looking forward to that one for the reason you think I am. (I couldn't care less about Jet Li facing off against Jackie Chan.) It just looks good. (And I'm a Jackie Chan fan.)
And then there's a handful of other ones I just wouldn't mind seeing like Spiderwick and Inkheart.

Waddya hear? Waddya say?
You know how to raspberry, don't you Steve? You just put your tongue out and blow.
Yeah
I think I'll reserve the term “excited” solely for a description of my feelings toward WALL·E.

GAH!
I FORGOT WALL-E! HOW COULD I FORGET WALL-E?! I DON'T DESERVE TO LIVE!!!

"Sir, I think you've gone mad with power!"
"Of course! Have you ever tried going mad without power? It's boring; nobody listens to you."

"Have you seen how much cotton candy he can eat?"
"Yes! 5.1 Pounds. That's why his blood is so good on pancakes!"
Hmph!
Shame! Shame!

I am so excited now!
Oh, yeah!!! I had forgotten about Indiana Jones 4 for a little while. I found out last year from an article on Wiki that it's comin' out this year. I am SOOOO psyched about this movie. I don't actually expect the action to be all that great (seeing as how my long-time Hollywood hero Harrison Ford is getting up in years), but it's still gonna be great. I mean, c'mon...It's INDIANA JONES!! Plus, Kate Blanchett plays opposite Ford, and Shia LeBuff (or however you spell his name) plays the "side kick."
The Mummy 3 is coming out???? I so did not know that. Ohhhhh, I am so excited now!! My siblings and I all adore those movies. They're so great!
OH YEAH!!! PRINCE CASPIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Can you tell I'm just a little excited about this movie?!?!)

Yeah, Wall*E does look like it's gonna be a cool movie.
I completely agree with you about Prince Caspian, Ais. They made him way too old. Not cool. Now what are they gonna do about The Voyage of the Dawn Treader? He was in his late teens on the voyage...they BETTER NOT mess that up.
Oooooo, Jet Li and Jackie Chan in the same movie?? You say it's called "Forbidden Kingdom?" I think I've heard the name. Sounds awesome!!! I really have a great admiration for both actors. Btw, has anyone here ever seen the Once Upon a Time in China trilogy??

Nostalgia
I'm pretty interested in the Indian Jones movie too, though maybe not on the big screen.
I just think it's cool that Hollywood is realizing that it isn't just the teenagers going to see movies now. So they're bringing back things that aren't necessarily "cool" anymore, actors who were popular with an older generation. Like "National Treasure".
I think it'll be fun to see Indy on the screen again.

Interesting
So do I, Ais. I don't know about the majority of my peers, but I grew up on Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Back to the Future, The Karate Kid, ET, All of the Pink Panther movies, etc. I guess I grew up watching what my parents watched when they were my age...hmmm, I never thought about that before. I always thought it was normal, but maybe it's not...lol, I remember watching the old black-and-white Little Rascals shows, and the REALLY old black-and-white Zorro shows. They were so hilarious!! Ah, sometimes I wish I could be a little kid again.

We oldsters
I never watched many of the old Zorros. Was this the one with Guy Williams? But I loved old Tarzans and Charlie Chans. (Imagine Sammo Hung as Charlie Chan. It could work!)
Yeah, Ais, some of our action stars are getting up there. I think it's because no one believes the younger ones. They aren't stars in the proper sense, since with special effects, CG and clever camera work, anyone can do anything. But in our hearts, we know there's no replacement for the actual talent of a Jet Li or a Jackie Chan.
BTW, Jackie is 54 years old, Jet Li is (who is also in the Mummy) and Nicolas Cage are both 44. Harrison Ford is 65. Oh yeah! A veritable festival for old ladies like me!!
